[edit] Old Airport

Does anyone have any information on the old airport that previously served Mazatlán? I had seen what was left of the previous airport in the early 80's. What little remained then is probably long gone by now. The runway had been converted to a road with an asphalt road curve at both ends of the old concrete runway. The terminal building was a small brick structure with MAZATLAN written on the airside. It was only large enough for one or two gates. It had a second story for the control tower and rotating beacon. It was located near the beach strip hotels but inland several blocks. I have not been able to locate it on google earth and do not know the exact coordinates. A long time American resident of the city told me in the mid 90's he believed the El Cid Country Club was built on the site but that seems further north then I recall seeing it. I have searched the internet for information and can't find anything about when it was abandoned or why it was replaced. Viejo-mazatlan.com has the only online picture I've found of it. [1] The caption indicates it was open in the 1950's. Aviation databases show there was an incident with a Mexicana 727 in 1973 at Rafael Buelna so the old airport probably closed before this happened.
