[edit] Overview

The Genuine Scooter Company is a Chicago-based producer/distributor of motorscooters, namely the Stella and Buddy (scooter) models.

Genuine Scooters was founded by Philip McCaleb in 2002 as an outgrowth of his garage based business where he sold vintage Vespa and Lambretta scooters and operated a mail-order catalog featuring scooter parts and accessories.

Genuine Scooters is the sister company to Scooterworks USA, a company that specializes in aftermarket parts and accessories for Genuine, Vespa, and other scooter brands.

Genuine Scooter Company began business in 2003, setting up and providing current dealerships with Stella model.

The Stella was immediately popular and inspired a cult following.

In 2006, the Genuine Scooter Company began a relationship with PGO of Taiwan, by bringing the Buddy (scooter) to the United States. The addition of the Buddy brought modern, automatic transmission models to the Genuine line and is now the best selling model for the company.
