Genevieve Woo
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Genevieve Woo is a TV news presenter-producer with Singapore-based regional news network Channel NewsAsia. She is the primary weekday anchor of the channel's highly-rated daily news programme focusing on local news and current events, Singapore Tonight, which airs on the station's Singapore feed at 10pm (Singapore/Hong Kong time) every day and its international feed, at 2am (Singapore/Hong Kong time) the following day. She is also a substitute anchor of Southeast Asia Tonight, Asia Tonight and World Tonight.
[edit] Background
Woo has more than 15 years of experience in the media and communications industry. She was previously an assistant editor at TODAY, a free English-language tabloid in Singapore. She was subsequently transferred to parent company MediaCorp to head its Corporate Communications department as Vice-President prior to crossing over to Channel NewsAsia. At one point of her career, Woo worked in an advertising agency as a copywriter.
In addition, Woo sits on the academic board of the Jewellery Design & Management International School, where she contributes to the school's academic programme's communications courses. She is also an Exco member of the Guild of Professional Jewellers and Artisans (GPJA) in Singapore.
Outside of work, Woo's passion is in film-making. Together with Tony Kern of Mythopolis Pictures, she co-produced a film called The Mitre Spell which weaves a whimsy tale around the mysteriously-spooky, colonial-era Mitre Hotel off Killiney Road in Singapore. The hotel has been in the news as the subject of a recently-concluded multi-million-dollar family lawsuit. The film premiered at the 2007 Singapore International Film Festival.
Another film Woo co-produces with Kern, A Month of Hungry Ghosts, which captures the rituals and performances throughout the entire seventh lunar month Hungry Ghost Festival in Singapore, is in the pipeline.
[edit] Education
Woo graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Language and Literature from the National University of Singapore. She is embarking on her Master of Social Science in Psychology and Professional Counselling with Swinburne University of Technology, Melbourne, Australia.
