The Geneva International Model United Nations (GIMUN) is a Geneva-based, student-led NGO which promotes the ideas of the United Nations. Its aim is to educate students about the work of the United Nations and to provide youths a platform to discuss and formulate findings and initiatives regarding global issues. The GIMUN regularly organizes different events including an annual one-week Model United Nations conference.

After being recommended by the Committee on Non-Governmental Organizations, [1] the ECOSOC approved the GIMUN association as an ECOSOC NGO with Special Consultative Status in August 2007, allowing the organisation to report to the United Nations Economic and Social Council and guaranteeing access to all United Nations offices.

[edit] MUN conference

The GIMUN conference is a bilingual MUN taking place annually in the conference rooms of the United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG) in the Palais des Nations. In the last conference, in March 2007, 206 graduate and undergraduate students from almost 60 countries participated. [2] During one week, seven UN committees were simulated.
