Genetic Control
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Genetic Control is a punk rock band from Montreal, Canada. They existed from 1984 to 1986 and reunited for some shows in 1998 and 2005. They have two official releases: the almost unfindable (only 500 were made) First Impressions 7" released in 1984 on Generic Records and the Brave New World CD released in 2005 on Sonik's Chicken Shrimp Records. They also had a track, Suburban Life, on the famous Primitive Air Raid Montreal '84 compilation released on Psyche-Industry Records.
Genetic Control is also the same name of an alternative classic-rock influenced band from New York City, New York. Formed by Christian Peppas and Charlie Schiller in 2000 and named after a Peter Gabriel reference, the band released their first EP, "The Things You Mistake To Be Free" in 2004. The EP had four songs on it: Short Stories, Please Believe, Just Accept It" and "32" (all original songs by Peppas and Schiller). The EP received notable mention on New York's FM station 92.3 K-Rock.
In 2005 due to dischord within the group, bassplayer Matthew Stupp left the band and Peppas departed soon after (after several previous attempts) to pursue his current solo career, Yesmisterbloodvessel. Though similar in some ways, Yesmisterbloodvessel is for the most part musically different than his previous project in that it includes a heavy industrial influence.
To date, Genetic Control carries on as a three-piece band in a more progressive-rock direction. In 2006, they released their first full-length album entitled, "Back In New York".
