Genesius Theatre

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Genesius Theatre opened in a storefront in Reading, Pennsylvania in 1971. In 1974, the theatre moved to its own nearby building at the corner of 10th Street and Walnut Street in Reading where it exists today. Performers use both its main stage in Reading and at its second stage in nearby Wyomissing, Pennsylvania.

Genesius Theatre was closed due to structural problems with the building. In 2005, the theatre was re-opened after being completely renovated, largely thanks to donations by Albert Boscov of Boscov's epartment Stores.

Genesius the Musical, an original show by members of Genesius Theatre, was presented in the spring of 2007. The show told the story of Genesius Theatre's formation and early days.

Genesius' main stage holds 103 patrons on the main floor and 18 in the balcony. The second stage holds approximately 65.
