General Union of Syrian Women is a women's organisation in Syria. GUSW was founded in 1967, as merger of different existing women's groups.[1] The president of GUSW is Souad Bakkour, MP.[2]

GUSW represents Syria in relations to various United Nations programmes and agencies, such as participating the Beijing Conference, UNIFEM, FAO, UNDP, etc.

On April 7, 2006 GUSW released a report, developed in cooperation with the United Nations Development Programme, on domestic violence against women in Syria. The report was seen as ground-breaking, as domestic violence is often seen as an intra-family affair in the country.
