General Mariano Escobedo International Airport (IATA: MTYICAO: MMMY) is an international airport located in Apodaca, Nuevo León, Mexico. Together with Del Norte International Airport, General Mariano Escobedo International Airport handles domestic and international operations for the city of Monterrey and its metropolitan area.

The airport is considered one of the most modern airports in North America serving up to 8 million passengers per year. Eighty percent of passenger traffic is domestic, primarily from the cities of Mexico City, Guadalajara, Chihuahua, and Tijuana, and twenty percent of passenger traffic is international, primarily from the United States cities of Dallas, Houston, Atlanta, Chicago, and Los Angeles. There are almost 300 daily flights to more than 35 destinations in Mexico, North America, and Europe. It is considered as the country's fourth most important airport in terms of passengers handled and operations per year, after Mexico City International Airport, Cancun International Airport, and Guadalajara International Airport.

The airport serves as a hub for Aviacsa, Aeroméxico, Aeroméxico Connect and Viva Aerobus. Airport terminals were renovated and expanded in 2003 and again in 2007. The airport handled 5.25 million passengers in 2006, representing a 12.7% increase over 2005 [1].

Monterrey Airport's Terminal Layout Diagram (After Terminal B is finished).
  • Terminal A, considered as the most modern air facility in the country (before the construction of Mexico City's Terminal 2), consists of a building comprising check-in facilities, baggage claiming, shopping areas, restaurants, customs, airport and airline offices, as many other services, while the satellite building connected via underground tunnels comprises all the VIP and waiting lounges, migration among other services as well as obviously the boarding gates. The Satellite building, is divided into two concourses, North Concourse for domestic flights (Gates A1-A15), while South Concourse comprises all the international flights that operate into the airport (Gates B3-B8). As any major airport in the country, Terminal A is already saturated. Several flights are delayed day by day due to the lack of free contact and even remote positions, as the ones capable of handling large aircraft such as the Boeing 767. Nevertheless, Terminal C and soon Terminal B will work as a relief system for this terminal. There are future plans to remodel and expand the Satellite building, adding at least 4 new jetways and 3 remote positions.
  • Terminal B, is currently under construction and is scheduled to open on the third quarter of 2008. The new terminal will comprise 8 gates, 6 of which will be equipped with jetways and 2 apron-doors which might be used by Aeroméxico's feeder airline Aeroméxico Connect. Most probably, the airline will house all operations of the Sky Team member airlines, similar to Terminal 2 in Mexico City International Airport. The airport terminal will be able to handle up to 4 million passengers per year, and will allow the airport to free some slots for new airlines to operate into Terminal A. Together with the construction of Terminal B, the airport authorities have decided to build a third runway parallel to the actual largest one.
