General Electric YF120

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The General Electric YF120 was an advanced military engine designed by GE Aircraft Engines in the late 1980s/early 1990s for the United States Air Force Advanced Tactical Fighter (ATF) project (which resulted in the F-22 Raptor). GE lost the engine competition for this aircraft to Pratt & Whitney's F119.

In 1996 GE (in partnership with Rolls-Royce's Allison Advanced Development Company) was selected to develop the YF120 for use as the Joint Strike Fighter alternate engine. This partnership resulted in the GE/RR F136.
