The Waltonian is a correlative of the Scaldisian of Antwerp and, therefore, preceeds the Gelasian. The Gelasian correlates with the Pretiglian and Tiglian of the North Sea Basin that correlates with the Red Crag of Butley and Newbourn and the Norwich and Weybourn Crags. This is all clearly younger than the Waltonian. I don't know on which data this mistake is based, but the GeoWhen database is wrong.
Another point is the following.
Although the Gelasian is proposed as a Pliocene stage, this is not in line with the common use in many countries, among which are Britain, the Netherlands, France, a lot of other European countries, China, etc. This has much to do with the 'disappearance' of the Quaternary from the ICS which was unjustified because this issue was subjected to a moratorium until 2008 (Status as well as the start of the Quaternary).
In mine opinion (as well as of almost all Quaternary workers) the Gelasian is part of the Quaternary. To be clear: this is not a simple case of POV. --Tom Meijer 16:46, 19 April 2007 (UTC)
