[edit] Music

Wow, you know a lot about music, or research it. Either way, I'll keep an eye out for you. You seem like a keeper. - Kevin (TALK) 21:36, 4 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Huygens probe

I didnt make that particular edit, I normally just go after spelling and grammar, but it looks like you figured it out already. Glad to have another person looking out for the small details! Scott (TALK) 18:22, 18 February 2007 (EST)

[edit] Coconut oil

Thanks for the references and additional edits. If you didn't already notice, I started a discussion in the talk page on restructuring the section. It will all come down to what sources we can find, which you seem extremely good at. --Ronz 23:20, 12 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Bicycle and motorcycle dynamics

Thanks for your contributions to the article. Sorry about reverting the first one. It all seemed to be covered elsewhere. Thanks for catching the confusing sentence about locked steering and canceled gyroscopic effects. I'm glad to have that handled. I'm afraid that your most recent addition will get flagged for POV, but let's wait and see. You might have noticed that I've been working on the article for a while. When I got it close to the current form, others stopped bothering me about POV. Note the comment on the talk page that goes "Do something about ‘Common misconception’ to make it less polemical." A section titled 'Common misconception' was how I tried to handle claims about gyroscopic effect, and that comment was how it was received. That's why it ended up as 'Other Hypotheses'. I hope I haven't discouraged you. I've been waiting for someone to give the whole article a critical eye for a while. -AndrewDressel 03:40, 14 April 2007 (UTC)

Perhaps we can put them (skater and pogo stick) in a new subsection under balance called something like "similar examples". It can also include skateboards, runners, unicycles, skis, kick scooters, etc. It might be worth mentioning the difference between continuously nonholonomic and intermitantly nonholonomic systems. We might need to be a little careful of the dreaded "original research", though. -AndrewDressel 14:54, 14 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Film stubs

The list can be found here Category:Film stubs. There's only one that doesn't fit the regular pattern, and that's the "documentary" stub! SkierRMH 22:08, 13 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] NASA's Launch Manifest

Hi there! Yes, it is out of date - there was a rearrangement in April with the release of the April 2007 FAWG Manifest. I'm working on getting some confirmation from NASA as to these changes so we can have a better source. Colds7ream 07:56, 15 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Re: List of power pop musicians

Hi Gekritz. I really like the idea of two or even three sections on a page like that; maybe something with "roots", "first-tier importance bands", "2nd tier", etc... What I would love to avoid is what happens to a page like List of punk bands where it isn't informative and usable. If pages are categorized correctly, they will show up in the power pop category, which is great if you want a comprehensive list, but useless if you know little about the genre and want to find a list of "important" bands that might not be mentioned in the article. Do you have any idea what the guidelines are for the "list of ____ bands"? Cank 00:09, 19 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Wondermints

It was actually my fault all along that Wondermints were listed as "The Wondermints" on List of power pop bands. I ordered Bali around the same time that I added "The Wondermints" to the list; then, when I received the album, I realized that I'd been wrong (having erred on the side of common sense) and that the band's own article had their name right. That's when I removed the "The" that I myself had added. (D'oh.) Still, like you, I'm even now not 100%. Having ripped Bali to my laptop, the artist name for the album is listed as "Wondermints", but the artist info for each individual track reads "The Wondermints". (Groan.) I can't believe how many bands you've added to the power pop page. I'll probably have to check some of them out. Roger Joseph Manning Jr is my favorite artist at the moment, and I was both glad to see that you added him and embarrassed to not have done so myself. Oh well, I gave up on making serious efforts at improving Wikipedia with List of Internet slang. (Haha.) Keep fighting the good fight, I s'pose. If you know anywhere that I can find the lyrics to RJM's three songs that were on LoPI but not SSW, let me know. I tried to type them up for myself, but I could only decipher about 95% of the words. Cheers, H3G3M0N 01:30, 2 July 2007 (UTC)

I know, right? I've just been listening to my RJM station on Pandora and adding anyone who sounds good. H3G3M0N 16:04, 9 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Jack's Mannequin

Glad to be of service. I'll continue to post good bands as I come across them. Powerpopaholic.com might be the place to find even more new acts; I just stumbled across it the other day. H3G3M0N 19:27, 12 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Re: fred

You're welcome! Damn, they're good. On another note... I can't believe that someone just tried removing the Beatles and Head Automatica from the list without a word! Did I overcompensate when I added some of those punk pop bands? I didn't realize at first that there was another, separate "list of punk pop bands" article. On yet another note... can you think of any way to incorporate into the list's lead blurb a description of power pop as "rock/pop" or something like that? I certainly don't want to step on the main article's toes, but it would be nice if users who stumbled across the list page without an understanding of what power pop is could just see "rock/pop" and instantly think, "Oh, OK." (Atleast that's how I'd most succinctly describe it.) H3G3M0N 00:31, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

I guess you'll have to wait to get your copy of Sound Awake to answer that capitalization question for sure - I'm working at Colby, and my own physical copy of the CD is at home. All I can say for sure is that I can't recall ever seeing the F capitalized anywhere. I do know that you're gonna love the album! As far as instruments go: I wish. I told myself I'd buy a guitar this summer, but that didn't happen. I'm considering taking piano lessons this coming school year or something - RJM really makes me want to learn them keys! Who knows? I'm guessing you play, though? H3G3M0N 02:32, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Sixpence None the Richer

LOLs. I only thought of Sixpence because my roommate sent me the Japanese version of "Kiss Me", performed by Sixpence themselves. (It's amazing.) H3G3M0N 02:32, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Power Pop List Talk

I think you succeeded in crafting the cogent argument that you were seeking. I'll leave everything alone unless it seems like someone who isn't you ought to step in again. H3G3M0N 04:01, 23 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Re: WTF Is "H3G3M0N", LOL?

"H3G3M0N" is a L337 rendering of "Hegemon", an allusion to Peter Wiggin of the Ender's Game quadrilogies. H3G3M0N 04:01, 23 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Power Pop Albums Category

Yeah, that is a neat idea. Actually, I was thinking recently that it might be nice to eventually dissolve the List of power pop musicians article, gradually replacing it with a category page, providing lasting links to all of the individual band articles that way. Just a thought. Regarding your suggestion for the main article, I say just go for it now that you've made your point. If anybody screws with your edits for reasons that don't make sense, I'll back you up. As for other favorite genres of music of mine, Dance, R&B, and New Wave probably cover most of it. H3G3M0N 01:01, 26 July 2007 (UTC)

The "See Also" section you added is OK. The main article link is redundant to the one right above the lead paragraph, though! (I'll remove it now.) H3G3M0N 00:25, 3 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Power Pop Miscellany

Sorry it took me so long to get back to you, Gekritzl. I was on vacation for a while, and I think I was a little WPed-out besides. Geez, the List talk page really erupted! I didn't see any of the responses to what I'd written until days later, and responding doesn't seem worth my time. I can't believe Head Automatica keeps getting removed from the List! They're listed as power pop on their own WP page, and their band bio on their own page stresses that they are power pop to the core! I'd really hate to have to cite every band that I add just to try to get each one to stick!

I just got a couple albums in the mail - Spymob's Sitting Around Keeping Score and JM's Everything in Transit. I'm shocked by how much I'm reminded of fred when I listen to Spymob. I think you'd get a tremendous kick out of the title track. MySpace it? I wish you'd warned me about JM's album - it's so blah! I really only like the tracks I'd heard before buying it (Miss Delaney, Kill the Messenger, Holiday from Real) plus Dark Blue and MFEO; the rest is sounds-the-same overly-emo crap in my opinion.

Man, I was looking forward to adding The Rocket Summer to the List, but I just saw that he's already on there. His song Waiting is stuck in my head 24/7 - it's disgusting, really. Peace! H3G3M0N 00:38, 3 August 2007 (UTC)

I can't say I know where that Townsend quotation is from; if you pretty much know it's fake, I say delete it. As far as your deletion police article goes, I don't think it could hurt to complete it and see what others think. Still 21, H3G3M0N 00:26, 6 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] I3C

I made a couple of edits to the Indole-3-carbinol article. What do you think about having a relatively short introductory paragraph that is followed by sections on topics like estrogen metabolism and cancer? I think the 1990 Michnovicz & Bradlow article should be included in the list of numbered references.....it is widely cited as having shown that I3C alters estrogen metabolism in humans. --JWSchmidt 00:54, 6 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Bonnie Hayes

Hi.

I edited the Bonnie Hayes article to indicate that her album "Good Clean Fun" is being released on CD. Grundle2600 17:30, 24 August 2007 (UTC)

Hi again.

I'm glad you're happy! Grundle2600 18:59, 24 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Speedy deletion of Richard Greene (fiddle player)

A tag has been placed on Richard Greene (fiddle player), requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia per CSD G12.

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not meet basic Wikipedia criteria may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as an appropriate article, and if you can indicate why the subject of this article is appropriate, you may contest the tagging. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the article and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm its subject's notability under the guidelines.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag) and leave a note on the page's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. ScarianTalk 14:24, 8 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Notability of Naathan Phan

A tag has been placed on Naathan Phan requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Lex Kitten 00:01, 28 October 2007 (UTC)

  • You're going to have to work hard to pass notability, but good luck. Also, does your signature not contain a link? That could make it difficult to respond to a message. the_undertow talk 00:22, 28 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned non-free media (Image:Homer3 b.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Homer3 b.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 02:16, 12 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Unspecified source for Image:Teeko.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Teeko.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 03:27, 23 December 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Jusjih (talk) 03:27, 23 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Cattle mutilation

Saw your plea, fixed the ref. You had an excess / in the "ref name=" portion that was closing it off too soon, as you might see in this diff. Subtle, but critical. Pairadox (talk) 18:15, 23 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Malcolm

I see no evidence of a connection between TTN and Mzaincontributor. Mzaincontributor is a new account (February 2008), has regular user status (no admin bit), and is creating what I can only guess he or she perceives to be new articles. As I mentioned, the articles are at different locations than the ones you are referring to, which would explain the lack of an edit history. If you go to Red Dress, for example, and look at the article history, you will see the old article. (TTN redirected it on 15 October 2007). Hope this helps. --Ckatzchatspy 22:20, 9 March 2008 (UTC)

Thanks, but that's not much of a help. The day before Mzaincontributor "created" the Red Dress (Malcolm in the Middle) article, the full article was already there. It is pure speculation that Mzaincontributor was the one who deleted the original, complete article, and replaced it with the skeleton article, and somehow wiped out the edit history. Did you see the message I left on your talk page? Thanks again... Geĸrίtz (talk)
Well, based on the available evidence, I would say that it is speculation and nothing more. I'm an admin, so I see deleted pages - and there is nothing visible at Red Dress (Malcolm in the Middle episode). As well, the link that TTN removed from the episode list was to Red Dress, which is where the text you posted on your user page appears to come from. (In fact, when I compared the version prior to TTN's October 2007 redirect with the text on your subpage, it was identical, even down to the spelling errors. The only differences were a merge template at the top of the page and a category at the bottom.) I can't explain what you saw when you say you saw it, but Mzaincontributor's editing patterns do not resemble TTN's at all. He/she also does not have the access rights to delete an article's history. --Ckatzchatspy 03:02, 10 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Joseph Patrick O'Malley

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Joseph Patrick O'Malley, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? Tomdobb (talk) 15:20, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Malcolm

There was a discussion about this here Talk:List of Malcolm in the Middle episodes. All those episodes pages contained the summary, trivia and really nothing else. I do think some are notable, like the ones that won Emmys. I would say go for it and recreate the pages, if you include real-world information (like winning an emmy), references, and not just the plot and trivia. -- Coasttocoast (talk) 23:21, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

Also Tv.com, home.earthlink.net/~bigfitz79/Malcolm_Music.html and a Malcolm fan sites are not reliable soruces and cannot should not be used in articles. -- Coasttocoast (talk) 23:36, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
Just created the article Bowling (Malcolm in the Middle). If their done like that, I don't think they'll have a problem with it recreating episode articles for MITM. -- Coasttocoast (talk) 00:26, 10 June 2008 (UTC)
