Geir is a male name common in Iceland and Norway, rare in Sweden, and very rare in Denmark. It is an ancient Nordic name meaning "spear". In Norway, its popularity peaked in the late 60's and early 70's. Nowadays it is an uncommon name among newborns in Norway but still holds its place in Iceland.
