The Geibeltbad Pirna is a public bath and water sport facility in Pirna near Dresden, Saxony in Germany. Finished on July 20, 1937, it is one of the largest baths in the world. The 20,000 square metre site was renovated and upgraded in 2001-02 to include an indoor swimming pool, wellness centre and other facilities. From 1937 to 1990 Geibeltbad was a venue for the German swimming championships as well as a training site. In 2006, the bath welcomed 233,588 visitors.

Pirna is located in a wooded valley between Viehleite and Kohlberg and can be reached by taking a thirty minute train ride from Dresden on the Dresden S-Bahn "S1" followed by a ten minute bus trip on the Neundorf (Pirna) "N-Line" to the Geibeltbad stop.

[edit] The lido

In the lido there is 8x 50 m pool (2,000 m ³), nonswimmer (250 m ³), a 10 m tower with 1 m, 3 m and 5 m stage and belonging that basins with 850 m ³ capacity. In addition is in the east part and western part paddling for children. In addition it orders years developed cabin wings, which extend between old and new entrances in the charm of the 1930'er. Several playgrounds are to be developed, such as "Gacetto", spider, sliding pole , table tennis plate and 2 match-fair Beachvolleyball places, where annually at the end of August, starting from 2007 the Saxonia championships, every year. In addition the exterior installation has a capacity for approx. 5000 visitors. The external basins are also all heatable. At heat periods in summers it can come to the fact that up to 2500 visitors are there. This becomes however more rarely, because of the birth rate and drift to other areas. On the former meadow is a paddle- and a mud basin for little children were playing there and Freaks. The paddel basin has many fountains at the water. With wounds at the foot it is not good to going into the mud basin. The “Galcetto” is already for decades a racer for football players, where usually have balls.

The leisure time bath is at the same time indoor swimming bath, wellness bath and sauna bath. The pool is 25 m long.

It has a 34 °C and a 15 °C basins. The nonswimmer basin has massage druses and neck emitters. Then there is still another steam sauna, what has the characteristic to lies in the bath central and openly. The giant chute is manufactured from high-grade steel and it can see from the inside into the outside. It has also a water playground. From the interior may be swim also after outside; into the 32° warm external basin. From there can be go also to the free bath. This happens with the "Coin", which is worth 40 euros.

There are 6 different saunas in the Geibeltbath Pirna. It accommodates two classical saunas (80 °C - 100°C), a low temperature biosauna with 50 °C - 60 °C, a tepidarium with 30 °C -45 °C and a Finnish Kelo Sauna with 500 years old pine wood. steam baths there are even 2 sorts on, with 100% air humidity, 40 °C - 45 °C and brine inhalation bath with damp steams temperature of 45 °C. medical herbs are always attached. Then there are still Husum. A welfare mud is applied. The mud consists of algae and chalk. The sultans let develop this for itself in history. In the Tepidarium are then the heat areas with water inside and cold water basins and inserted quiescent areas. Who got thirst, can do itself refresh again directly at the bar.

The bath arranged many of couses for his visitors. Adult swimming courses are in offer. Continuous of Monday to Thursday children training takes place starting from 6 years. It has one duration of 14 days (8 training days altogether). For people, which want to regenerate, there are swimming gymnastics. For the power sport is the course "Aqua-Power" in offer. Baby-swim takes place on request and runs off over 5 units à to 30 minutes long and costs 40 euros. Special highlight is thereby a dipping photographer, who the takes pictures or videos of the first bathing baby.

The Aqua child fun courses, are divided in two groups: 2-4 years and 4-6 years.

  • Every first Monday at the month it take place the naked swimming from 22:00 am - 2.00 pm at the leisure time bath. The whole internal area is to be entered then naked. In the summer season from May to Septembers this does not take place.
  • On each Monday parents and grandparents with own children pay only 10 euros entrance until including 15 years. And only the sauna scenery costs 7 euros.
  • Every year takes place in July the bath celebration, which always stands under a topic. Tower jumper, broadcast moderators are there usually.
  • Children birthdays take place with children, who are 7 to 12 years old and in addition children may participate up to 6. This costs 60, - € and for the day 80,- € for 2 hours.

With more than 6 children it is big children birthday. It costs 80 euros for 2 hours and 120 euros for the day. There is thereby gifts and mainly animations.

There is a restaurant at the main entrance, the snack bar at the exterio bath and a bar at the tepidarium. The restaurant is for all visitors. The prices are cheaper than in Dresden baths.
