GECAD Software was established in 1992 by Radu Georgescu as a Computer Aided Design (CAD) development company. Over time, GECAD’s focus shifted from CAD software to security-related software, mainly antivirus software. Their most prominent product, Reliable Antivirus, or RAV, was first developed in 1994. In 2003, after establishing a distribution network of 60 countries and over 10 million users worldwide, the technology was acquired by Microsoft. In 2004, GECAD reshapes its entire business. Recognizing innovation as it most inner strength, it capitalizes on its people and expertise to establish several business lines. GECAD is now a group made up of four companies, each pushing ahead in a high-growth market.
[edit] Member companies
GECAD eventually begin to start new member companies to hone the focus of the main company better. The original GECAD Software became the “mother” company, and the GECAD Group now consists of four companies:
- AXIGEN - a commercial mail server that first launched in September 2005.
- ePayment – provides eCommerce and online payment solutions. Within a year of its launch, ePayment had over 200 customers.
- Avangate - provides complete eCommerce and classic distribution solutions for software vendors
- GECAD NET - focuses on providing IT security services and technologies under the new brand Sentinet, launched at the beginning of 2006. The company is also a major provider of software solutions from Trend Micro, Autodesk, Microsoft or Adobe.
- GECAD Software is the support company for the other four business entities and it is also responsible for consolidation of the Group. The company is not active on the market.
