[edit] Merge proposal
I disagree, as ships in the Banks universe are full characters, and the Grey Area was a notable character of the novel. A merge to the ships list would also be inappropriate due to the structure of the list. If at all, it should be merged into something like List of characters (The Culture) type article. - Per WP:FICT the main focus of our articles on fictional topics should be their real-world significance, backed up by independent third-party sources. Would you be willing to provide this information and out-of-universe context? Eusebeus (talk) 15:58, 28 March 2008 (UTC)
- Eh? I just said that I was willing to consider a merge into a characters article (to take into account the fact that the subject of this article isn't the central focus of the books, and thus finding real world refs would be hard). While we are busy citing policy, how about "when appropriate, spinout articles may be used for listing characters or other elements of the work that lack real-world coverage"? - Then again, there are in fact secondary sources in this case, just added two (note that the first review is NOT an Amazon-type readers review. Its a review by a specific store of their bookstore chain). The other is from The Guardian, reasonably significant as a source, I'd say. Ingolfson (talk) 03:24, 29 March 2008 (UTC)
- I also disagree with the merge proposal, for the reasons cited above. Ship types (The Culture) has a section on the GCU class, as List of species (The Culture) has a section on The Affront, but Grey Area is a character in its own right, and this article is as appropriate as the article on the biological character Diziet Sma.
