Description |
Wye junction (TV-WS, Tunnelverzweigung West-Süd) in the western tube of the Gotthard Base Tunnel at Multi-Function Station Faido, Canton Ticino, Switzerland. The right tunnel is the main western bore (EST-WS, Einspurtunnel West-Süd), the left tunnel (VT-S, Verbindungstunnel Süd) is a connection into the main eastern bore (EST-OS, Einspurtunnel Ost-Süd).
Photo taken on an open doors day. Temperature is 28°C (would be around 40°C without cooling), humidity is 100% or above (almost steamy climate)
Once completed the 2 km long MFS Faido will be a multi-purpose station 2000 meters below ground level for maintenance and emergency evacuation purposes accessible through a 2.7 km long tunnel with a gradient of more than 12%. The entrance of the access tunnel is in Polmengo TI close to the village of Faido.
