Gazole (also spelt Gajol) is a community development bloc and an assembly constituency in Malda district in the Indian state of West Bengal. [1]

In the 2001 census, Gazole had a population of 294, 749, of which 150,337 were males and 144,412 were females. Decadal growth during the period 1991 and 2001 was 26.43%, against 24.77% in Malda district.[2]Decadal growth in West Bengal was 17.84%.[3]

Gazole is an intermediate panchayat in Malda district. Village panchayats under it are – Alal, Babupur, Bairagachi I & II, Chaknagar, Deotala, Gazole I & II, Karkach, Majhra, Pandua, Raniganj I & II, Sahajadpur, and Salaidanga. [4]

In 2006 and 2001, Sadhu Tudu of CPI(M) won the Gazole assembly seat, reserved for scheduled tribes, defeating his nearest rivals Jatin Hansda of INC Nabakumar Hembrom of AITC respectively. In 1996 and 1991, Debnath Murmu of CPI(M) defeated Benjamin Hembram of INC and Nabakumar hembram of INC respectively. Sufal Murmu of CPI(M) defeated Naba Kumar Hembram of INC in 1987, Benjamin Hembram of INC in 1982, and Shyam Murmu of Janata Party in 1977. [5]
