Gazi-Stadion

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Gazi-Stadion (official German name Gazi-Stadion auf der Waldau, formerly Waldaustadion) is a stadium in the German city of Stuttgart, in the southern district of Degerloch. It is located adjacent to the city's famous TV tower.

The stadium is the homeground of current Regionalliga Süd football side Stuttgarter Kickers, who have played their home fixtures there since its inauguration on June 18th, 1905.

Before 1987, when it was officially named Waldau-Stadion (after the name of the neighborhood, where it is located), it was simply known as Kickers-Platz (Kickers' Ground) or Kickers-Stadion (Kickers' Stadium).

It was refurbished in 1913, 1982, 1997 and 2000.

Since 1995, it is also the home ground of American Football team Stuttgart Scorpions of the German Football League.

In July 2004, the stadium was renamed Gazi-Stadion after its main sponsor, German company Garmo AG, that sells its products under the name Gazi.

It has a capacity of 11 544 seats, which makes it the second biggest stadium in Stuttgart.
