I'm sure I can't be the only one who's curious: How did it get that name? D.M., 14:14, 10 March 2006

Considering the track record of this article being vandalised by anonymous accounts, I suggest that this article be put in a semi-protected state where only accounts registered for more than four days can edit it. I would think that would cut down on the vandalism and efforts to clean it up considerably. Scud1 22:57, 18 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] I'm curious too

I am curious too, D.M. How exactly did it get the name Gays? SilverBulletx3talkcontributions 18:19, 5 July 2006 (UTC)

I was born and raised just outside of Gays and the story behind the name that I heard is this. The Village started as Summit Station because it was the highest point on the railroad between St Louis and Indy. When the Village tried to incorporate it was discovered that another town in Illinois had he name Summit. The Village Board had to come up with another name. So... the Board members used the initals of their last names to form Gays.

I also was born and raised outside of Gays, and I heard the same about it being Summit. Since it was the highest point, they decided to call it Gays because you could "gays" for a distance...there was just a slight spelling problem.
