Gavin Boyter is a UK-based writer/director of short films and music videos.

Boyter attended the Northern Media School (part of Sheffield Hallam University) between 1997-98, graduating with an MA in Film and Television drama.

In 1998 his short film Our House was shown at the Leeds International Film Festival.

In 2003 he won a commission to direct a music video for the Primal Scream track "A Deep Hit of Morning Sun" through Scottish-based scheme 4 Minute Wonders. This led to several music video commissions, including "Lavinia" by The Veils and "Look What You've Done" by Australian band Jet.

In 2005 he directed the first music video for UK grime artist Mr Ti2bs ("No Need to be Extra").

From 2000 to 2007, Boyter directed nine three-minute Straight-8 shorts on Super 8. His 2005 short film Hide and Seek featured a voiceover from acclaimed Scottish actor Bill Paterson.

Receiving completion funding from the UK Film Council in 2007, Boyter wrote, produced and directed the short film Beyond which was screened at the Edinburgh International Film Festival in their First Past the Post screening of 20 August 2007. The film starred Annelise Hesme, whom Boyter cast as a result in seeing her in a high-profile series of Renault Clio commercials. The film also starred Jamie Treacher and Amani Johara.

Boyter set up the production company Strange Attractor Films Ltd. in 2006. He is currently developing his debut feature project Sparks and Embers.
