Talk:Gathering of Eagles (disambiguation)

[edit] Isn't Disambiguation Just for Wiki Articles, NOT Outside Links?
Since you said you don't answer questions on your talk page, I'll repeat mine here.
Re: your reverting the outside link that I deleted* Gathering of Eagles organization [1]
Gathering of Eagles organization does NOT have a wikipedia page.
Wikipedia:Disambiguation states: "Disambiguation in Wikipedia is the process of resolving conflicts in article titles that occur when a single term can be associated with more than one topic, making that term likely to be the natural choice of title for more than one article. In other words, disambiguations are paths leading to the different article pages that could use essentially the same term as their title."
So my deleting the link to the organization was quite proper and it should be deleted. Someone should create a page for the group and link to that, and that is where the link to the outside page would be proper.

- The policy says "is the process of resolving conflicts in article titles". Nowhere the policy requires that the article must exist. In fact, it is quite common in wikipedia to use red links as hints to possible but missing articles. Wikipedia is an ongoing process, not something cast in stone. `'Míkka>t 20:28, 27 November 2007 (UTC)

- I've just seen it done once, within an article, and still waiting for that article. Are you intending to write the article in the near future? Carol Moore 22:53, 27 November 2007 (UTC)User:Carolmooredc User talk:Carolmooredc
- It does not matter whether I am going to write or not. The organization made quite a stir and is mentioned in several wikipedia artices, therefore it needs to be disambiguated, to avoid confusion. `'Míkka>t 23:13, 27 November 2007 (UTC)

Thanks! I figured there must be a wiki law about all that somewhere! Carol Moore 04:55, 1 December 2007 (UTC)User:Carolmooredc User talk:Carolmooredc
Ok, that makes sense! It's good to put reasons for doing unusual things on talk pages right off so that people wont start whole threads! I might do a quicky at my leisure since I've seen photos of their members attacking peace activists. And heard a particularly horrific threat by one of their leaders on CSPAN. Wrote it down somewhere. So I'm sure there's lots of material to be referenced on the net. Carol Moore 00:41, 28 November 2007 (UTC)User:Carolmooredc User talk:Carolmooredc
- I assume you are familiar with the wikipedia rules for citing: Wikipedia:Reliable sources. P.S. it is not so an "unusual thing" as you may think. For example, it is quite common case for minor settlements: in wikipedia there is a consensus that all permanent settlements deserve an article, at the same time it will take quite some time when each and every village in the world will be wikipedized. Other examples include vehicles (eg. T-36) and song albums. `'Míkka>t 01:53, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
Gathering of Eagles organization has a few incoming links, so I guess an article about it can and will be written some time. I commented-out the external link per MOS:DAB#Individual entries. – sgeureka t•c 19:20, 30 November 2007 (UTC)
- I removed Gathering of Eagles (Organization). As has already been stated, the disambiguation page is for existing articles. --Horse Badorties (talk) 02:45, 24 January 2008 (UTC)
