[edit] History
The concept of Gatecon was born back in 2000 to provide a place for fans of the show Stargate SG1 to meet members of the cast and crew of the show as well as to get to know their fellow fans. The original organizers met thanks to an interactive Stargate-themed site run by Ryan Peters under Showtime's umbrella.
Another integral feature of Gatecon is charity. Since its inception in 2000, Gatecon has been busy raising money for the Make-a-Wish Foundation. This has been achieved through a series of auction evenings showcasing props and costumes kindly donated by MGM and The Bridge Studios in addition to hundreds of personal donations from fans.
Gatecon has become a globally supported event and one that sees attendees from all corners of the world. Some of those people have attended every single event and that can only add to the family-orientated atmosphere that Gatecon is known for.
