Gaspare Pulizzi is a member of the Sicilian Mafia from the Carini area near Palermo. At the time of his arrest in 2007 he was the boss of the Carini mafia[1]. He was initiated into the Tommaso Natale family of Cosa Nostra in June 2006 in the presence of Salvatore Lo Piccolo, Sandro Lo Piccolo, Andrea Adamo and Pippo Di Bello[2]. Arrested in Giardinello on 5 November 2007, he later became a 'pentito' and started offering evidence against Cosa Nostra.

[edit] Reason for joining Cosa Nostra
Asked why he had joined Cosa Nostra, Pulizzi commented "I dunno. It just happened."
[edit] Murder of Guiseppe Di Maggio
Pulizzi, together with Nino Pipitone and Gaspare Di Maggio, formed an assassination squad assigned to kill Bartolomeo Spatola, known as 'Lino', the ex-boss of the Tommaso Natale family, and an associate of Antonino CinĂ , a leading member of Cosa Nostra. Due to mistaken identity the team killed an innocent passer-by, Guiseppe D'Angelo on [22 August 2006].
"It was a mistaken identity. We were supposed to kill Lino Spatola and instead killed a certain D'Angelo. We got the wrong person and I participated in this crime... There was me, Nino Pipitone, who was in a car up ahead, and Gaspare Di Maggio... But Di Maggio only saw him in person ages ago. And this other guy looked like him...[3]"
Investigating Magistrates speculate that Guiseppe D'Angelo, nicknamed "Pino" was doubly unfortunate in that his nickname "Nino" was sufficiently similar to "Lino" for him to turn in response to being called[4].
[edit] Murder of Giovanni Bonanno
Pulizzi was also involved in the dissapearance of mafioso Giovanni Bonanno, son of Armando Bonanno in January 2006.
"I was at home when I got a call from Enzo Pipitone, and he told me to go to Cinisi, along the seafront at Magaggiari, near the bar Targia... He was in a sack, we put him in the car, took him to the old orchard at Pottino. There we dug a hole with a digger, burnt him, and buried him. I heard after that Bonanno had taken money from the family.[5]"
[edit] Murder of Bartolomeo Spatola
A month later Pulizzi helped dispose of Spatola's corpse after he was dissapeared and killed ('lupara bianca') "That morning we met Nino Pipitone, who had the body in a case, and we went to bury it in another hole in the Pottino orchard. Pino Pecoraro was with us too. A few months later I had to go back and dig up the bones. His and Bonanno's.[6]"
[edit] On the Lo Piccolos
Pulizzi was close to the Lo Piccolos, who were the "padrini" at his initiation. "Me and the Lo Piccolos were like family. They were the bosses, they had equal responsability, they made the decisions together.[7]"
[edit] Pentito
On turning 'pentito', Pulizzi pin-pointed the home of the Lo Piccolos on Route 113 in Terrasini, a short distance from Giardinello. Pulizzi also identified many former comrades, including;
[edit] Masino Lo Presti
"boss of Palermo-Central. I met him in Montelepre at a meeting with the Lo Piccolos and Adamo [censored]. I saw Masino Lo Presti many other times, especially when I was on the run."
[edit] Salvatore Sorrentino
'Lo Studentino', "I've heard him speak. He was very close to Gianni Nicchi. He was a part of the crew with Rotolo. But lately he's been closer to the Lo Piccolos, and he asked to meet with them. Salvatore Lo Piccolo sent me to say it was possible, but up until my arrest, it didn't happen."
[edit] Piero Alamia
"He's not a 'man of honour', he's a builder, together with his father and brother. He's a cousin of Lo Piccolo, through his wife, I believe... I know he was talking to Sandro Lo Piccolo, and that he signs his messages with 'Transalp'."
[edit] Vincenzo Greco
"...I recognise Vincenzo Greco, boss of Passo di Rigano, which also includes the Torretta family. In January 2007, before I went on the run, I saw him together with Franzese, the Lo Piccolos, Andrea Adamo, and Nino Pipitone 'class 69', a Giancarlo Seidita, and there was also a Catenese, Angelo Santapaolo, Nicolo Sedici and Enzo Aiello, and that last one had to introduce the first two to all the others. On this occasion the Catenese brought Sandro a present of a Kalashnikov. Finally, Greco gave me the money for that month from a contruction company in Passo di Rigano, called 'Carollo', equal to two rates of 3,000 euros each, which I then gave to Sandro Lo Piccolo. I believe that I know a brother of Enzo Greco, called Pino, who's involved in work in Mondello, possibly for the sewerage system there, because my brother-in-law Nino Pipitone was interested in it. We were in a bar in Mondello, 'Da Renato', me, Nino Pipitone, Nino Macaluso, Ferdinando Gallina and Pino Greco."
