[edit] re: Kiss article

Thanks for the edit.

A caveat, though, is that there's an anonymous editor who reverts the article to a plagiarized version of the All-Music Guide entry on Kiss. He's also active on other pages, some of which I maintain pretty much on my own. If you'd like to take over the Kiss page, I'd be grateful. Auto movil 22:11, 30 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for tagging and rewriting this article, but on reviewing I don't think it's a copyright violation. The noted website is a mirror of Wikipedia. I'll delete the temp page in a day or so (to give you time to merge it into the main article). --Duk 01:22, 2 Jun 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Football team rankings

Hi, Thank you for structuring and improving this article. On the other hand, I'm afraid your edit was not entirely right in correcting the ranking here, since the football club in question has been voted the second, not the fourth: click any of them, and you'll see the results. In this moment: Bavaria Munich: 19046 votes, Ferencvaros Budapest: 15559 votes, CSKA Sofia: 11000 votes, Real Madrid: 8583 votes. Thanks for your attention in the future. -- Adam78 20:23, 1 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Demoscene

Hi Gargaj, good to see you here. I was going to create an article about Exceed, but to be honest, I wouldn't be able to write a whole lot. Since you're a lot closer, maybe you can give it a shot. They would deserve an entry ust for Heaven 7 (I've seen it distributed in quite a few comercial pc mags) :-) A collaborative demoscene Wikipedia group could be a neat idea too. 68.180.46.171 00:39, 11 December 2005 (UTC)

  • D-lee would prolly be able to provide a couple of megabytes of history about Exceed I guess but I dunno if I can be bothered to ask right now, a bit busy to start to new article from basically nothing and just depending on research work (<- bad). Besides I never liked Heaven 7 anyway :)

[edit] Links in the Demoscene article

Hi Gargaj, could you have a look at the issue I brought up at the (current) bottom of the Demoscene talk page concerning the large amount of external links? I would like to have your input on the matter. TIA! Nmrd 22:37, 28 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Tera Patrick

[edit] 3D Monster Maze

Thank you for your interest in the 3DMAZE article. I have noticed that you moved the teeth image to the beginning of the critical acclaim section. It was previously floating near to the last review, which actually referred to the teeth. Now the image is near the section beginning and that review is in the end. To my taste, the image is not illustrative enough for the "critical acclaim" section as a whole, just in the end (note in the discussions some other editors noted that they don't understand the teeth and the sentencing/appeal business). Overall, I feel that it is slightly worse now (although if one doesn't read the text, and just looks at the relative flow of text/images, it indeed might look better). What do you think? --BACbKA 22:38, 2 February 2006 (UTC)

  • Considering the "chronology" of the pictures it might be senseful to swap the image with the T-Rex one. Otherwise I just moved it upper because the floaty broke the layout. // Gargaj 08:32, 3 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Request for edit summary

Hi. I am a bot, and I am writing to you with a request. I would like to ask you, if possible, to use edit summaries a bit more often when you contribute. The reason an edit summary is important is because it allows your fellow contributors to understand what you changed; you can think of it as the "Subject:" line in an email. For your information, your current edit summary usage is 8% for major edits and 13% for minor edits. (Based on the last 150 major and 150 minor edits in the article namespace.)

This is just a suggestion, and I hope that I did not appear impolite. You do not need to reply to this message, but if you would like to give me feedback, you can do so at the feedback page. Thank you, and happy edits, Mathbot 16:30, 27 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Barnstar /incorrect/

I finally figured out who to thank, and so to you I present this barnstar as a note of congratualtions for your critical edit to the Swedish Chef article. My favorite part: After this introduction, the Chef continues speaking gibberish while preparing a particular recipe. His commentary is spiced with the occasional English word to clue the viewer in to what he is attempting. These clues are necessary as he frequently uses unorthadox culinary equipment (firearms, tennis racquets, etc) to prepare his dishes. The sketch typically degenerates into a slapstick finale where the ingredients or equipment get the better of him. It's a good piece; the only thing changed to it since is the correction of "orthadox". Nice work. -Litefantastic 01:10, 18 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Help with a translation?

You note that you're a native speaker of Hungarian. Could you check out Wikipedia:Possibly unfree images#15 May and help with a translation? The uploader of an image says that a specific passage of Hungarian law releases all works of the Hungarian government into the public domain, and while I found the Hungarian law, we could use a few opinions from Hungarian speakers on what the law says. [edit] Moppi Productions

Leaving aside your unhelpful and pointless edit summary, you corrected my mistake by changing "X" to "lx" — yet you originally had it as "IX" (which is how it appears elsewhere in the article). Which is correct? --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 20:07, 28 May 2006 (UTC)

  • The .nfo says it's "ix" (lowercase), so with uppercasing, I guess it should be "Ix". // Gargaj 20:13, 28 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Bar Kokhba game

Interesting to see that you started both the Boom Boom Satellites article and The Bar Kokhba game section of Simon bar Kokhba. Since I don't read Hungarian, I'm curious as to some of the details of your reference. Specifically, I'm wondering how it agrees with Alfréd Rényi's quote in A Diary on Information Theory:

It is also said that Bar Kochba sent out a scout to the Roman camp who was captured and tortured, having his tongue cut out. He escaped from captivity and reported back to Bar Kochba, but being unable to talk, he couldn't tell in words what he had seen. Bar Kochba accordingly asked him questions which he could answer by nodding or shaking his head. Thus he acquired from his mute scout the information he needed to defend the fortress.

Rényi leaves out the other gruesome details and adds the context of the fortress. Do you know which details are in the most widespread and/or original version of this tale? Calbaer 01:15, 7 June 2006 (UTC)

  • To be perfectly honest with you I don't remember the exact sources of where I heard the story from, except for one, being an old book about games you can play on holiday and all that kindof timewaster stuff. I'm not completely sure about the actual description, but as far as I can recollect, most of the details match with what I wrote in the article. (I just googled for a reference site and found one that seemed to have the same version of the story.) It's worth noting that there's little detail in word-of-mouth; most people who know the story don't really get more elaborate than "someone who had his tongue cut out, but had something important to say" (which, as a sidenote, I think is gruesome enough) - I guess it's a dialectic thing as well. My reference for the article is near-verbatim to what I wrote in english, except probably some word usage, but that's a linguistic issue. Hope this helps, kinda. // Gargaj 06:44, 7 June 2006 (UTC)
Okay - thanks. Just curious. I understand that as a word-of-mouth phenomenon it's hard to peg down anything, but since there are some written sources, few of which are translated into any language I can read, I wanted to know what one said. Calbaer 16:55, 7 June 2006 (UTC)
By the way, one interesting source is here, and there's more about it in A Diary on Information Theory, portions of which are available online. I can't get more than a general feel for the former, but it seems as though its content is, more or less, contained in the latter. (If you're curious to check, I wouldn't mind knowing whether my Hungarian-ignorant guess is correct.) Calbaer 00:09, 16 June 2006 (UTC)
The above link doesn't have anything related to the history, it just explains the game as a work of binary logic.. It's also interesting to note that the Diary notes this: "The only problem with this very persuasive story is that no historical source-book mentions it. The legend was probably made up by the person who invented the game but I couldn't trace who that was." :) // Gargaj 12:55, 16 June 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for confirming my guess. Calbaer 14:47, 16 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Demo (computer programming)

Sorry, Gargaj, but I decided to revert your change. Nexus 7 definitely didn't have the first "fuckings" (I've seen them in late 80's C64/Amiga demos) and you're getting into trivial details about it. Save that for an article about the demo itself or the group, if they are ever created. --Vossanova o< 20:41, 11 January 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the link fix on keWlers. I had found that the entire link section lead to 404 errors so I replaced them with the Internet Archive versions. [edit] AfD nomination of Demoscene.tv

I've nominated Demoscene.tv, an article you created, for deletion. [edit] NTP, daylight saving time, and Microsoft Windows

Your recent change to Daylight saving time suggests that NTP simplifies the DST configuration of Microsoft Windows, as "the computer automatically synchronizes the computer clock with the chosen NTP server." Can you please explain how that works? Markus Kuhn's page on this problem suggests that NTP will not fix it. NTP talks only about UTC, not local time, so I don't see how NTP can fix or repair misconfigurations of the local-time offset from UTC. Do you have a reference or citation for how NTP works around the problem? Eubulides 05:44, 26 March 2007 (UTC)

  • I stand corrected - faint memory of UTC having a DST specific feature. // Gargaj 05:53, 26 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Notability of Mfx

A tag has been placed on Mfx, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in Wikipedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you feel that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag) and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. BirgitteSB 16:34, 20 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] .werkkzeug

A {{prod}} template has been added to the article .werkkzeug, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice explains why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. [edit] Fair use rationale for Image:RubberJohnnyDVDCover.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:RubberJohnnyDVDCover.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. [edit] Image source problem with Image:Come to Daddy video.jpg

Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:Come to Daddy video.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 18:51, 20 March 2008 (UTC). [edit] Looking for Wikipedians for a User Study

Hello. I am a graduate student in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Minnesota. We are conducting research on ways to engage content experts on Wikipedia. Previously, Wikipedia started the Adopt-a-User program to allow new users to get to know seasoned Wikipedia editors. We are interested in learning more about how this type of relationship works. [edit] Speedy deletion of The Shizit

A tag has been placed on The Shizit requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a band, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for musical topics.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. akaDruid (talk) 15:41, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
