[edit] Your VandalProof Application
Dear Garfield226,
Thank you for applying for VandalProof! (VP). As you may know, VP is a very powerful program, and in fact with the new 1.2 version release it has even more power. As such we must uphold strict protocols before approving a new applicant. Regretfully, I have chosen to decline your application at this time. The reason for this is that not enough mainspace edits. Please note it is nothing personal by any means, and we certainly welcome you to apply again in the not too distant future. Thank you for your interest in VandalProof. [edit] Great news re VandalProof!
I have been watching your efforts and I am impressed. So I'm bending the rules a little... as such:
[edit] Welcome to VandalProof!
Hi, Garfield226, thank you for applying for VandalProof. I am happy to announce that you are now authorized for use, so if you haven't already, simply download VandalProof from our main page and install it, and you're all set!
Warning to Vandals: This user is armed with VandalProof. |
Please join the VandalProof user category by adding either: {{User:Vishwin60/Userbox/VandalProof}} (which will add this user box) or [[Category:Wikipedians using VandalProof]] to your user page.
If you have any queries, please feel free to contact me or post a message on VandalProof's talk page. Welcome to our team! - Glen 01:52, 23 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Something you should know however...
As I said been really impressed with your efforts fighting the good fight! However, there's one step you have been missing and unfortunately it is the most important. Everytime you revert blatant vandalism which is ALL VP should ever be used for - it is vital that you head to the vandal's talk page and issue them a warning.
-
- SOME FEEL THIS IS EVEN MORE IMPORTANT THAN THE REVERTING ITSELF!
This tells the user that doing it is a waste of time as we fix it so quickly. Here's the protocol you are best to use:
[edit] Warning users for vandalism
- If you see that this is the first ever edit, or the first warning they have been issued in some time simply write {{subst:test1}} then your sig: ~~~~ - this places a nicely worded warning
- If you see they have recently had test1 - then write {{subst:test2}} ~~~~
- If you see they have recently had test2 - then write {{subst:test3}} ~~~~
and finally... - If you see they have a test3 - then write {{subst:test4}} ~~~~
- If they continue past test4 them report them here to be blocked.
Now, the great news is VP does a lot of this for you! But, you need to be familiar with the templates and their correct usage. Please be very careful at first, and I am just a messahe away if you need a hand. Thanks again! - Glen 02:08, 23 July 2006 (UTC) (VandalProof Moderator}
Psychology is arguably a pseudo science especially within the context and clear sight of the criticisms published within the topic. To call it such is not vandalsim from a self appointed and self acknowledged bender of the rules.
[edit] Need you to hang on one sec for me and read this please
Hey there. Let me begin by congratulating you for your anti-vandal efforts thus far! It is noticed and appreciated. As you can imagine when doing vandalism patrol we can sometimes face resistance from those we revert, and being a moderator I do have people come to me when they have concerns re an editor using the software (and trust me it does happen a bit). Concern has just been made about your usage so I've taken a closer look.
Basically, VP should be used to remove vandalism from wikipedia - you know, the rocket scientists that add poop, todd was pwnt, no, bills a n00b etc. It should not be used in the removal of good faith edits (even if they are POV or misspelt etc...) nor for content disputes. Reverts such as this one are not technically vandalism per se; the user adding this obviously believes it to be true (although the are blatantly wrong as you and I know). You'll recall above I said "you revert blatant vandalism which is ALL VP should ever be used for" - we need to be careful to follow this rule as the vandals immediately blame VandalProof and before you know it we have problems being allowed to use the software. If you could use traditional methods of editing and saving for any contant disputes and write a proper edit summary then we'll have no problems with complaining vandals. Otherwise please keep up the great work - Glen 09:54, 23 July 2006 (UTC)
