[edit] Welsh county names

Thanks for correcting my typos (and forgetting to mutate Maldwyn!). I'm a little curious, though, I've never seen anyone use Sir Aberteifi, is it much used? And I could have sworn there was a to bach on sir, dunno where I got that idea from. Thanks again! :o) OwenBlacker 21:42, Jun 22, 2004 (UTC)

I use the online dictionary at [1] for my spelling needs -- it says there is no to bach on sir (I didn't think there was). Sir Aberteifi is the old name for Ceredigion. The (much older) name Ceredigion didn't come in in any official sense until the creation of Dyfed, when it was used as the name of the district covering the old Cardiganshire. Cardiganshire was the default name for the new county in the 1996 reorganisation, but the council changed their name to Ceredigion (thankfully -- I much prefer it!). Gareth 22:36, 22 Jun 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Wikipedia:Welsh Wikipedians' notice board

I've created a fairly simple Wikipedia:Welsh Wikipedians' notice board (shortcut WP:WWNB) to try to get things started. Please have a look and consider signing on, adding it to your watchlist and helping to make sure any users with an interest in the subject know about it. Also please feel free to add things and to change anything you feel needs changing – I'm not under the impression that I own it! Rhion 20:00, 27 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Plaid Cymru

When was a time limit introduced on editing Wikipedia articles? There is no defintive version of any article: all are works in progress. Do you have any specific complaints regarding my edits? If so, please edit the page and fix them. Do not be taken in by the pseudo teamwork you think that you have partaken in at that Talk page.--Mais oui! 17:09, 22 February 2006 (UTC)

"I'm not suggesting that a time limit be placed on articles; I'm just intrigued by the fact that you ignored my attempt at mediation and decided that tit-for-tat mass editing was the solution to this." My "mass editing" was certainly not "tit-for-tat". I have every right to copyedit as I see fit: if there are specific disagreements then please change them yourself, or raise them at Talk. Admittedly, my previous edits on the sole Nationalism versus Welsh nationalism link were "tit-for-tat", but I seriously consider that to be a counter move to the disgraceful Labourite campaign to try to associate PC with the Nazis: do not be naive in this matter - Wikipedia should not become a free promo tool for the Labour Party to defame opponents.--Mais oui! 17:58, 22 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Cause for concern

Dear Gareth, you may be aware of the existence of [[Category:Welsh-speaking people]]. This has been nominated for deletion, on the grounds that all "similar" categories, eg. English-speaking people, would be "too big". I'm not prepared to die in a ditch over it, but I do feel that it's an obvious exception. If you have an opinion, would you care to contribute to the debate? Deb 19:15, 7 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Glantaf

Thank you for clarifying that first sentence in Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Glantaf. I'd never heard of a "medium school" before, but I just thought it was British for "middle school". Now it makes sense! ... discospinster talk 17:56, 19 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Cimries and camries

In the same editing spree, that IP address has wandered over from "we Welsh in Wales" via we the American people to us in France. Not quite sure what to make of that. Attempting to assume good faith, this is one well-travelled Cymro... Telsa (talk) 18:13, 7 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Request for help

Hello Sir, I am wondering if you would be able to assist me with something I am trying to get done. I speak practically no welsh at all, hence on my user page on the Welsh Wici, I am marked as a cy-0... However, I am a very big fan of what was an originally Welsh language cartoon, SuperTed. I note we have an article on the English Wiki, and one in Finnish (suprisingly), but I see no mention of SuperTed on the Welsh Wici, the one place I thought it would be. Do you think you could possibly help by taking a shot at translating the article and adding it to the Welsh Wicipedia, or finding someone on the site who could do this? I came to you because I found you in the category for Native Welsh speakers. I hope you can help, please contact me on my talk page if you can. Thanks (or is it Diolch yn fawr or something like that???), Thor Malmjursson 14:12, 16 December 2006 (UTC) Talk to Thor

This article is still the subject of much controversy. If you could find time to look at it and perhaps make a contribution to the debate, it would be appreciated. Deb 14:48, 1 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Your Recent Edit

You have just deleted my article on Penbryn.

As I researched the subject, took the photographs and wrote the original article, surely I am entitled to replace a stub with something mre meaningful? Above all, I retain the copyright, so its removal was groundless! I think you will find that there is nothing else much of substance on Penbryn. If you go to http://www.welsh-cottages.co.uk/themes/westwalesguide.asp I think you will find I am building a unique photographic resource of West Wales which I am willing to share with others. As you are aware, the area is largely dependant now on tourism for its prosperity and the whole purpose of publishing a guide is to encourage people to visit us.

It would have been better if instead of taking a very negative view that you had offered some constructive criticism.

Could you please re-instate it.

Thanks

This morning, I have now stated clearly on the page that you thought was not my original work The Penbryn article page and on The Penbryn photographs page that the copyright is mine and I have assigned this not only to my own name, but also now to the name I use here on Wikipedia. Please verify this by scrolling down to the bottom of these two pages.

Secondly, how can extolling the unique attributes of one of the most beautiful of beaches be classed as commercial "brochureware"? Where is my economic gain? This beach is under the stewardship of the National Trust. Perhaps you should make the effort to visit it! I am sure you will agree, that with Mwnt, that these two are the best beaches in Ceredigion.
