[edit] Membership of the Communist Party
As far as I'm aware Lefley's membership of the CP was not a secret to be 'exposed', he had quite openly stood for the executive of CPGB in the 1980s. Also, Julian Lewis was a member of an anti-CND organisation, the Coalition for Peace through Security, and as such might not be an accurate source alone. Sjeraj 21:53, 28 May 2006 (UTC)
- You are correct regarding Lewis' point of view; but there is still the issue of CND's silence on the matter. Attempts to contact the organization via emails and calls were never returned. The least the organization could do was at least offer a statement. --Folajimi 22:03, 28 May 2006 (UTC)
- I was a Vice-Chair of CND at the time this "pro-Workers'-Bomb" paper came to light. 'Pariah in some circles' is damned right - that anyone in our employ could seriously argue that one nuke was more honourable than another is something a large number of us found indescribably offensive. Lewis did not 'expose' the paper in question quite so much as he 'received it in the mail from someone at CND'. --Handelaar 01:25, 8 September 2006 (UTC)
It does seem strange that there is little or no mention of him in the available accounts. However, CND had been led by communists in the past (John Cox), was there a specific reason why CND disassociated itself from Lefley and not from others? Sjeraj 12:36, 30 May 2006 (UTC)
- Beats me. I do know that Bruce Kent was once pressed about ties to communism, and he denied those charges rather vehemently... --Folajimi 12:52, 30 May 2006 (UTC)
- John Cox never tried to publish a paper saying that it was morally justifiable for a communist state to possess nuclear weapons.--Handelaar 01:25, 8 September 2006 (UTC)

- Thanks for explaining this Handelaar, now makes much more sense. Is there a copy of Leafley's article online that we can add as a link? Sjeraj 17:39, 8 September 2006 (UTC)
