Talk:Gary Goodridge
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Why is Gary's style listed as Kuk Sool Won when that's completely inaccurate and there is some controversy regarding the dubious circumstances of him receiving a black belt in that style? --Phrost 23:22, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
I'll second this. Goodridge himself has admitted that he only wore the uniform and belt because at the time he thought that's what you needed to get respect in UFC. I was simply funded by a candiand KSW school without having ANY formal training in the art. His style should be listed as MMA.

I read in an interview that Goodridge was given a Kuk Sool Won black belt because the club was sending a guy and Goodridge heard about it. He faced off against the guy who was meant to go and just pinned him, and Goodridge agreed to go instead of their guy if the club paid him. The club also gave him a blackbelt and made it official. Anyway, it's a well known fact that the Kuk Sool Won thing was a hoax. The reason Goodridge is listed as Kuk Sool Won is because Wikipedia is run by geeks, many of whom practice styles like Kuk Sool Won, Kung-Fu, Karate, Tae Kwon Do, etc, but have never been in a real fight, don't realise that it doesn't work in a real fight, but nonetheless will debate whether or not a black belt in Tae Kwon Do would beat a professional heavyweight boxer in a fight. Gary Goodridge started out in amateur boxing, he boxed for Canada. --Holymolytree2 05:47, 28 July 2007 (UTC)
