Here are some tasks you can do:

    Contents

    [edit] General

If 66.127.219.130 is going to continue to change this, he should give a reason. The whole tooth thing is a part of his persona as is the video. Please see official rules:

    "Avoidance

The best way to resolve a dispute is to avoid it in the first place.

Be respectful to others and their points of view. This means primarily: Do not simply revert changes in a dispute. When someone makes an edit you consider biased or inaccurate, improve the edit, rather than reverting it. Provide a good edit summary when making significant changes that other users might object to. The Three Revert Rule forbids the use of reverts in repetitive succession. If you encounter rude or inappropriate behavior, resist the temptation to respond in kind, and do not make personal attacks.

Writing according to the "perfect article guidelines" and following the NPOV policy can help you write "defensively", and limit your own bias in your writing. For some guidelines, see Wikipedia:Wikiquette."

I hope I improved it enough to stop him from removing large parts of the article again. I think the nicknames are fine to mention, along with the constant ridicule Baba Booey receives from Stern and the other guys. We do need to remember that a lot of it is an act - the "horse toothed jackass" is basically a character he plays. So I've toned down a lot of the stuff which said that Dell'Abate really does have bad breath and "ape-like features". It's just a show. Rhobite 19:08, July 21, 2005 (UTC)
Please note, WP:LIVING applies to this article (see this talk page's header) in addition to the more general Wikipedia policies. As such, editors should not simply rephrase or tag libel with {{citation needed}}—they are obligated to remove libelous and unsourced content immediately! --gwc 23:35, 13 February 2007 (UTC)

    [edit] Question

I thought I read on this page a couple of days ago that Dell'Abate only makes $65,000 per year; which seems incredibly low, given the national syndication of the show. Today, the information is gone. Did somebody remove the bit of information?

If you listen to the "Gary Roast" air date Nov. 19th, numerous comedians mention that Gary makes $500 000 a year.

    [edit] Origin date of "Bababooey"

Just for accuracy, I am pretty sure that the "Baba Booey" nickname originated in July of 1990. It was a first run show, so it could not have been a rerun of an earlier broadcast.

    [edit] "Funny stuff"

Please be aware that Wikipedia is not the right venue for including "funny stuff". If you want to include "funny stuff" (that's inaccurate, irrelevant, or otherwise doesn't fit into the Wikipedia article rules), you should find an appropriate venue to do so. There are lots of Howard Stern fansites out there that would welcome such inclusions. Moncrief 22:13, August 1, 2005 (UTC)

Does getting his ass licked count? Gary has admitting that he enjoys it and every time I add it, it gets erased. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tofilmfan (talkcontribs) 08:38, 20 February 2007

It wasn't erased this time (bc of the footnote), at least not yet. The thing is that in Wikipedia it's not enough for something to be true, it has to be attributable (see WP:A). And since this is a biography of a living person (see WP:LIVING), WP:A isn't open to interpretation like Wikipedia usually are. Note: it's hard to find the information on the large web-page cited; if problems crop up in the future, a direct quote should solve it all and guarantee the info won't be removed (if it's a reliable source). --gwc 04:48, 16 March 2007 (UTC)

My question would be: who cares? Does every disgusting factoid about a public figure belong in their bio? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.70.173.53 (talk) 00:05, 1 February 2008 (UTC)

    [edit] Middle Name

Can someone explain why Gary's middle name Patrick keeps getting removed? Check his IMDB link. It's his real middle name. I don't see how including it makes the article worse. -wadems 13:14, August 4, 2005 (UTC)

    [edit] Gary's Brother Steven

Ok I do understand that Gary's brother Steven died of complications due to AIDS but it has never been discussed how Steven contracted the disease. 68.160.120.105 04:41, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

they never go in to detail, however it can be inferred that he contracted it through unprotected sex, as they frequently connect him being gay and dying of AIDS 68.193.87.97 18:39, 20 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Original Year of Baba Booey

In the article, it states the year was 1989, but then it says there is a 1987 soundbite. Which year was it? It seems something needs correction. --Bark 19:41, 4 August 2006 (UTC)

Most people with aids don't talk about how it was contracted. Theres only 4 ways to get it, pick one. It's not proper to talk about.

[edit] Howard Attending Gary's Father's Funeral

I removed the sentence: "Strangely enough, Howard did not attend the wake, nor the funeral, a fact that has since discouraged his fans.". This was a rumor dismissed by both Howard and Gary on the very next show after the funeral. Howard stated he missed the wake because his girlfriend fractured her foot as they were leaving their apartment to attend.

    [edit] Trivia

The trivia section in this article is bigger than any other section. I think most of it is good enough to be integrated into the article proper or even given its own section, though. Feel free to dig in, I'll start moving stuff around shortly.. MGlosenger 14:32, 22 December 2006 (UTC)

    [edit] Spelling of his name

I'm pretty sure there is a space in between the "Dell'" and the "Abate", so that it should read "Dell' Abate". I was just listening to the Gary Roast and they specifically noted that there is a space in the middle of his last name in addition to the apostrophe. I'm for changing the title of the article and all instances of "Dell'Abate" to "Dell' Abate". Chris01720 22:35, 15 July 2007 (UTC)

This was in the Jackie/Fred song where they spell out his name right? Let me check that and some other sources to make sure. If his name is off we may need to make some serious changes. Optigan13 01:45, 16 July 2007 (UTC)
Well Jackie and Fred definitely had a space in there, I think they were goofing on his old mtv application tape. However all the other sources I see don't show a space, including the howard stern.com bio, lifebeat board of directors, and IMDB. So I'm inclined to stick with no space for now, the same as we can't really use Sal and Richard's jokes about Gary's brother as being a source for being gay or how he got AIDS. Optigan13 03:50, 17 July 2007 (UTC)
Good point. I do seem to remember that on "take your kids to work day" Howard asked Gary's kids if they disliked the way they spell their name. I believe Howard spelt out the name when he asked the kids this, so if anybody comes accross that, see how Howard spells it. But it's not very important because all the other sources seem to say it does not have a space. Thanks to Optigan13 for researching that. Chris01720 03:31, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

    [edit] disagreement with redirect

Those of you who entered "baba booey" will notice a redirect to Gary's page. I disagree with this redirect and maintain that "baba booey" itself warrants its own page based on the fact that the article has as much content about the "baba booey" phenomenon (tag line to crank calls, etc.) as it does about Gary himself - a good starting point would be the "references in popular culture" section which is really not about Gary at all. 66.32.186.96 (talk) 02:59, 24 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Gary and Mary.jpg

Image:Gary and Mary.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
