In 1989-90, his first season with Blackpool, Briggs made seventeen league appearances and scored two goals. The goals were scored in a 3-1 home defeat to Crewe Alexandra on September 16, 1989 and in a 4-2 defeat at Northampton Town on October 17, 1989. He appeared in all five of Blackpool's League Cup ties over three rounds, and again scored two goals: against Burnley in a 2-2 draw at Bloomfield Road in the first leg of the first round on August 22, 1989, and at home to Barnsley in the second round, second leg.[1]
During the season, Briggs alternated between wearing the number five, six and eleven jerseys.
In his second term with Blackpool, Briggs settled into the number five jersey, making thirty appearances in the league. He also started all three of the club's FA Cup ties — including the defeat to First Division giants Tottenham at the seaside on January 5, 1991 — and both League Cup first-round ties. He helped the club through the two-legged semi-final stage of the play-offs, but missed the final.
His third season was hampered by injury, but he managed to make twenty-six appearances in the league, two in the League Cup, and one in the FA Cup. It was his first season with Blackpool without a goal to his name.
