[edit] Naming of the Marquesas

The Marquesas Islands article says that Álvaro de Mendaña de Neira named them after his patron Mendoza, Marquis of Cañete. Alvaro’s own article says he named them after Mendoza’s wife. This article on Mendoza has no mention of his or his wife’s eponym at all. What’s the real story? -- JackofOz 22:23, 25 September 2007 (UTC)
