[edit] What about garbage games?

There is also a similar term, "garbage game", which refers to a situation (usually in the last round of group-based tournaments) in which the final positions of the different teams in the group has already been determined (i.e. the outcome of the last game will not have any effect on the position of either team), which means that the last game means nothing more than a friendly match. You can say in these cases that the entire game is garbage time, or that it is a garbage game. NegativeIQ (talk) 13:16, 29 February 2008 (UTC)
