[edit] Early life

Wilmot's father Harry was a member of The Southlanders and died in 1961, when Gary was six years old. Despite these show business roots, Gary's upbringing was outside of the limelight, and his first jobs were relatively low-key occupations; Gary was employed as a store clerk, scaffolder and messenger before entering show business. Gary's career reached its apex in 1992 when, as lead role in Puss in Boots, he finally realised his childhood dream of breaking into the pantomime circuit.[1] Gary made a successful move into musical theatre and appeared in Me and My Girl, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and Copacabana. He is currently appearing in Half a Sixpence at the Wales Millennium Centre, Cardiff.
