A native of New York, Gary studied at American University before relocating to Southern California.
After moving to Los Angeles, Gary studied acting under Paul Sills. Gary became a company member at the American Theater Arts in Hollywood where he got his first job as an acting teacher. This led to fifteen years as a teacher at The Young Actors Space.
Gary was the children’s acting coach for eight seasons on Roseanne. In addition, Gary worked as the coach on The Jeff Foxworthy Show, Sister, Sister, the WB series The Smart Guy with actors Jonathan Lipnicki, Tia & Tamara & Tahj Mowry, respectively.
Other notable projects Gary worked as an acting coach were Honey, I Shrunk The Kids, Everybody Loves Raymond, and with Dylan and Cole Sprouse on The Suite Life of Zack and Cody. He was also a creative consultant to the Disney Channel for the Mickey Mouse Club.
In 2000, Gary started workshops for young actors in LA. These workshops led to the creation of Gary’s own school, The Playground, a young actors' conservatory, in Century City, CA in 2005.
