Gary Riley (November 19, 1963— June 10, 2007) was an American character actor with about thirty credits encompassing theatrical and made-for-TV films as well as episodes of TV series.
A native of St. Louis, Missouri, Gary Riley played Charlie Hogan, one of his best known roles, in the 1986 film Stand By Me, and also received notice for his portrayal of Dave Frazier in the 1987 comedy Summer School. He also made guest appearances on such TV shows as Knots Landing, Growing Pains, Amazing Stories, and Airwolf.
On June 10, 2007 at 10:15 p.m., Riley, age 43, suffered fatal injuries while driving in Queens, New York. He had been spotted leaving a bar only ten minutes earlier, while apparently intoxicated. Less than half a mile from his home he seemingly fell asleep at the wheel and collided with another vehicle. He was brought to nearby New York Hospital, Queens at 10:24 p.m. and pronounced dead on arrival.
He had a daughter that he was not in contact with, born September 10, 1992.[citation needed]
