Gary Alexis Medel Soto (born August 3, 1987) is a Chilean football player who plays as a Defensive Midfielder, in Universidad Católica in Chile. He was an important player in Chile's U-20 team that qualified for the World Cup in Canada under coach José Sulantay. He is the main "driver" of the game in defense and midfield in the U-20 Chilean team.
Medel currently starts as defensive midfield for Universidad Católica after coach José del Solar decided to include him over veteran Patricio Ormazabal. He is known for his intensity and energy earning the nickname "Pit Bull" and "Chilean Gattuso" in reference to AC Milan's midfielder Gennaro Gattuso.
The 2008 starts being a great year for Gary who in the first round of the Copa Libertadores americas is one of the high points of Universidad Católica reaching score a goal in the final match of the stage in front of the America of Mexico, though not enough because goal difference by his team, Universidad Católica not classified. A couple of weeks after destapa is again showing a superlative level compared to classic rival Universidad de Chile, becoming the master of the medium and marking a field goal from large bill worthy of a great striker with that, as in the previous classic (final result 2-1 in favour of Católica, with two goals of "Pitbull" Medel), put the final 2 to 0 with Universidad Católica who once again defeated the eternal rival.
