Gary McCausland is a property developer born in Belfast, Northern Ireland on 10 June 1968.[citation needed] He presents Five's flagship programme "How to be a Property Developer" (now in its third series) and Property Developing Abroad[1] Gary recently published his first book How To Make A Million From Property.[2]
McCausland grew up in a town called Dungannon throughout the troubles in the 70's and 80's. He is the eldest of seven siblings, two girls and five boys. It was during these days that the first dreams of being a property developer were born, as he recognised opportunities of building, renovating & essentially improving his environment.
McCausland always wanted to work in property and chose the corporate route to lay the foundations for this ambition. He obtained an honours degree in Estate Management and a Post Graduate Diploma in Accountancy from the University of Ulster and now is a Chartered Surveyor.[3]
McCausland spent around ten years buying and selling properties globally. He worked as a Management Accountant in 1992 and then moved to a senior management role at Cable & Wireless from 1993 to 1998, where he worked as a Property Manager.[4] At this point he moved to London. He then joined MCI, becoming their Estate's Manager from 1998 to 2000.[4] In his final step on the corporate ladder, McCausland worked for another American company as their European Sales Director, until 2001.[5]
McCausland's company, Richland Developments is based in London and builds luxury residential and commercial buildings.[6] With his brother Dez, he also co-founded the award-winning[7] Kingly Club, a members only nightclub in London's Soho district.[8]
In 2004, Five approached McCausland to present 'How to be a Property Developer'.[3]
In February 2007, McCausland became a father, when his Fianceé, Big Brother 6 contestant and model, Orlaith McAllister gave birth to their daughter Eva.[9] The couple since split in April 2007.
The third series of How To Be A Property Developer started its 10-week run on Thursday August 9th 2007.[3]
