Gary Lefley

Gary Lefley succeeded Meg Beresford as general secretary for the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (CND)in 1990. Lefley belonged to the Straight Left faction within the Communist Party of Great Britain. He became a pariah in some quarters after his communist leanings were exposed by Conservative MPJulian Lewis. Lefley wrote a paper supporting the possession of nuclear weapons by North Korea as a defense against the United States. Lefley remained general secretary of CND until 1994 when the post was abolished.
