Gary Glen (born 22 March 1990 in Livingston, West Lothian) is a Scottish professional football player currently playing for Heart of Midlothian in the Scottish Premier League.
Glen, a former pupil of Broxburn Academy, joined Hearts from their Boys Club system in 2006. He has featured for Scotland at youth team level, scoring against Northern Ireland and England in the 2005 Victory Shield.[1]
Highly rated by the Hearts coaching staff,[2] Glen earned his first involvement with the first team squad when he was an unused substitute in a league match at Motherwell on 5 March 2007. At the age of 16, Glen had a trial with Manchester United, but turned them down as he thought he was more likely to make it as a footballer with Hearts than with Manchester United. He made his senior debut as a substitute against Dundee United on 17 March 2007. He has begun to feature more for the first team towards the end of the 2007/2008 season, starting his first game in the fixture against St. Mirren at Tynecastle on the 19th of April 2008. In an impressive performance, Glen scored his first senior goal, and the second of the game, to put his team in front as Hearts came back from a goal down to win 3-2. Glen was awarded the Clydesdale Bank U19 Graduate award for his 'significant breakthrough'. He continued this with the only goal of the game in his 2nd start against Inverness on April 26th. On the 3rd May 2008 edition of 'Soccer AM', Glen and fellow Hearts youngster Matej Rapnik, appeared on the sub program, 'Skill Skool', where they went head-to-head in a battle of skill. Unfortunately for Glen, he picked up his first red card for a tackle on a Gretna player, during the last game of the season for Hearts. This will, therefore, result in him missing the first two games of the 2008/2009 season.
