Gary Freeman (rugby league)

Gary Freeman is a New Zealand former rugby league player. He played for the Northcote Tigers, Balmain Tigers (playing in the losing grand final sides of 88 & 89), Eastern Suburb Roosters, Penrith Panthers, and Parramatta Eels. He played halfback and was arguably one of New Zealand's greatest Test halfbacks, playing for the Kiwis from 1986-1995. At the time of his retirement he was the most capped New Zealand test player.

Freeman also coached New Zealand from 2001-02. He currently provides expert commentary for Fox Sports.

Freeman, who is famous for his classic end-over-end pass, is often better known by his nickname "Whizz", short for Wizard.

He is now coach of the New South Wales young achievers team.
