Gary Burr, born in Meriden, Connecticut, is an American musician and songwriter, mostly known for his stable of hits recorded by Country music performers. Burr began his career as a member of the group Pure Prairie League from 1982-85, taking over after Vince Gill's departure from the group. Burr later moved to Nashville to become one of the most-respected songwriters there, penning hits for a plethora of Country artists (and a few Pop & Rock artists) and also works as a producer.

Burr has produced a number of songs and albums, including the Disney Records album "The Best of Country Sing the Best of Disney," and Olivia Newton-John's "Back With A Heart."

  • Burr gave a then-unknown Faith Hill her first professional job as a backup singer in his band and became her co-producer for a time.
  • He has been named Songwriter Of The Year by a number of groups such as ASCAP, Billboard & NSAI.
  • In early 2007, he appeared live on the cable TV network VH1 Classic with the rock duo Shaw Blades as a backing member, performing songs from their album "Influences".
  • Burr is a counselor at the Rock 'n Roll Fantasy Camp.[1]
  • He has been collaborating and co-writing tracks for Ringo's albums "Ringorama" and "Choose Love," and has toured with him as a guitar player for Ringo's band The Roundheads.
  • Burr tours with Carole King as her guitar player in her 'Living Room Tour,' playing in the USA, Australia, and Japan, among other places.

As a note of his importance and influence as a major American songwriter, Burr gave Testimony to the U.S. Senate in November, 2005 concerning audio/video piracy (specifically from China) on behalf of himself and the RIAA. [2]
