Garrison Gunners F.C.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Garrison Gunners F.C. is a football club from the Isles of Scilly. It is one of the two clubs[1] that make up the smallest football league in the world[2].

The team was named after the region of the island that is home to the 16th century Star Castle, the Garrison being a round, elevated region of the island that has a star shaped wall built around the circumference of the area to repel invaders.[citation needed]

The team has no manager to speak of, just a captain who is elected each year by club members. Many people shirk this position as it comes with great responsibility.[citation needed]

The greatest player in living memory of the Garrison Gunners is Adam Blackwell, a much feared and deadly marksman who pillaged over 800 goals for the team over the years.[citation needed]

The current crop of players features such luminaries as Robert Furber, Andrew Hicks[3], Mark Mavers, Anthony Gilbert and Joe Hayes. They recently lost 7-1 to the Woolpack Wanderers in the first cup final of the season.[citation needed]
