'Garoowe(Somali: Garoowe) is the capital city of Puntland state in the Nugaal region of Somalia. It is where the regional parliament, the presidential palace, and the government ministries are located.
Garoowe has a population of 33,686[1] and is the fourth largest city in the region after Qardho, Bosaso, Gaalkacyo and Laascaanood. The prominent clan in Garoowe is Harti Especialy Sub clan Of Majeertayn Iise Mohamoud. It is located in the geographical centre of Puntland and is transversed by the north-south Somali highway. The presence of the highway has allowed for an economic boom to take place[citation needed] which has transformed it from a small rural town to a small to medium-sized city. The city is strategically located between the trans vice highway connecting major cities south and north somalia. The city has many schools and one major hospital. It is home to Puntland State University.
