The old name of Garhi Dilawer is Behrana. Even today many outsider people call this village as Behrana.
Actually there were many Jungles in this Village containing the trees of Bair, that is, reportedly, why this village got named Behrana.
Behrana, the village, is located near Inhuona, a Quesba of Raebareli which is much more famous for Choudhry Md. Azhar Husain. There are many well known characters in Behrana like Mr. Sufi Zamin Ali Khan, Haji Maqbool Alam Khan, Haji Sohrab Ahmed Khan. These Khans (Pathans) are totally devoted to Islam. This is to say all the villagers are the followers of Islam. Sufi Zamin should be given a credit to light the lamp of education here in this village which later gave some character like Dr. Fuzail Ahmed Khan, Mohd Ateeque Khan, Mohd Hasnain Khan etc.
In this village there is an Islamic Institute under the name of Ashraful Uloom Mohammadia, Garhi Dilawar which is serving the Muslim Community it's best.
