Gardsjönäs

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Gardsjönäs is a small 400-year-old village with a population of about 40 people. It is located in Storuman Municipality, Västerbotten County, Sweden.

The sami name is Gardejaur, meaning Fence-lake-Headland (Gard-sjö-näs).

The village is located on high ground near a large lake, the Gardsjönäs lake, making it quite a popular place on the winter holidays. The absence of police makes the small village popular for snowmobile driving well over the legal speed limits.

Several cottages are for hire, large to small size for families, school trips or meetings. The village is the home of the hunting guide Jonny Rubertsson.
