From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hugh Gardner Ackley (June 30, 1915 - February 12, 1998) was a U.S. economist. Appointed by President Kennedy to the Council of Economic Advisors, he was a proponent of Kennedy's tax cuts. Later, President Johnson promoted him to serve as the chairman of the Council of Economic Advisors between 1964 and 1968.

Ackley argued that American budget deficits growing largely out of the Vietnam War could be outgrown through economic expansion.

Ackley died in Ann Arbor, Michigan on February 12, 1998. He was 82.
