Gardiner Dam

The Gardiner Dam on the South Saskatchewan River in Saskatchewan is the largest earth fill dam in Canada. Construction on the dam was started in 1959 and completed eight years later, creating Lake Diefenbaker downstream.
An integrated power generating plant, SaskPower's Coteau Creek hydroelectic station produces a net 199 MW of electricity.
The dam is named for a former Premier of Saskatchewan and longtime federal cabinet minister, James G. Gardiner.
