Gardening Australia is a weekly gardening program screened on ABC1 and ABC2. On ABC TV it has been shown on Saturday's at 6:30 pm.
Gardening Australia is hosted by Peter Cundall, an experienced gardener who has a passion for growing plants using organic methods, and the show tries to emulate this by suggesting and promoting organic and environmentally friendly ways of gardening. The show has several segments, which include all forms of gardening, from sculptural and artistic gardens to vegetable growing and water saving. Most segments use on-location filming at actual gardens the presenters have visited, and many locations around Australia have been used. Peter has a segment called Pete's Mail where viewers can ask questions or send in photographs or letters about their own gardens. The show is introduced with Pete doing something related to gardening and briefly describing what the show 'is about'. Pete ends each episode with his catchphrase, "That's your blooming lot", or a variant using "it's" in replace of "that's". Sometimes a viewer will send in a photograph of a contraption created for helping in garden work and Pete will demonstrate it.
The opening theme features an upbeat piece of piano music and an animation of garden objects and plants 'growing' as the seasons pass. It culminates in an animated image of a garden with the shows title. In one episode the piano theme was played by a man who played music based on natural sounds.
Currently Gardening Australia screens on Saturday at 6:30pm on ABC with repeat screenings on Sunday at 1:00pm on ABC1, 3:00pm Monday on ABC2 then the following Saturday at 5:00pm just prior to the next new edition on ABC. As of 8 Dec 2007, each edition of the program will be a "Best Of 2007" featuring a collection of highlights. Each "Best Of" package is based around a different theme each week, with segments selected based on requests from viewers of the show. This will last for the duration of the show's annual Summer hiatus. Additionally, episodes from 2001 are screening Tuesday to Friday at 3:00pm on ABC2.
