Garden State Futurity

The Garden State Futurity was an American Thoroughbred horse race held annually at the now defunct Garden State Park racetrack in Cherry Hill Township, New Jersey. Run in mid November at a distance of 8.5 furlongs, it was at one time a premier event for two-year-old horses.

Future U.S. Racing Hall of Fame performers:
Christopher Chenery / family won the 1971 and 1972 editions. Trained by Lucien Laurin, Riva Ridge won the race in 1971 and went on to win the following year's Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes. In 1972, Lucien Laurin trained the first two finishers in the Futurity. Secetariat, who would go on to win the U.S. Triple Crown, won the race with Angle Light coming in second.
