Gangsta Boo (born Lola Mitchell on August 7, 1979), also known as Lady Boo, was a member of the Memphis, Tennessee-based rap group Three 6 Mafia's Hypnotize Mindz, self-proclaimed Queen of the South, the Undisputed Underground Queen (U.G.Q).

She was the sole female member of the group, which she left after the release of the album When the Smoke Clears: Sixty-6, Sixty-1. Mitchell left the group due to a falling out with several of its members, and following a public conversion in 2001 to Christianity.

[edit] Name change

"I wanted to change my name because of the stereotype that goes with 'Gangsta this' and 'Gangsta that.' "I wasn't living the gangster lifestyle, so I wanted to lose the name. Everybody was always telling me that it didn't fit me anyway. I was young. I grew up and matured, so I decided to go with 'Lady Boo,' since I say Lady Boo in my raps anyway."[cite this quote] Since the release of her 2003 effort, she has maintained the emcee name "Gangsta Boo".

[edit] Move and solo career

Mitchell has since moved to Atlanta, Georgia, though she has spent time off and on there since 1998, where she has launched a solo career, releasing albums such as Enquiring Minds II: The Soap Opera. Explaining the reasons for her move, Mitchell complained that "Memphis is gangsta. You're from the 'hood, and either your momma split or you don't know your daddy. I don't know whether it's our personalities or the way we talk, but Memphians tend to stand out." Mitchell was also drawn to Atlanta's black middle class, its nightlife and her perception that "everybody's more uplifted and in party mode." She was also featured on OutKast's 2000 album, Stankonia.

After a short hiatus, she made noise throughout the South by returning to the big scene on DTP's Gold selling Disturbing tha Peace compilation effort. Which she clashes with Rich Boy and Snoop Dogg on the remix of Break a N**** off. Since then, she has been featured on Rasheeda's Georgia Peach album, and has most recently (as of August 2006), dropped a mixtape with the 'Number one DJ in the South' DJ Smallz entitled Still Gangsta. She is currently working on her next solo album titled "Forever Gangsta". She is now apart of the New Prophet Camp

[edit] Queen of the South controversy

As of last year, there has been an ongoing competition from female rappers hailing from the South. Khia, Jacki-O and Trina have all claimed to be the "Queen of the South". Khia argues that her Gold selling 2002 effort Thug Misses and continuing fan base gives her the upper hand on wearing the crown. Miami, Florida native Trina, who was introduced to the world through Trick Daddy's Thug.com in 1998, claims thus far she is the most established female rapper coming out of the south. And Jacki-O has been claiming the title since her first official mixtape The Official Bootleg. Gangsta Boo, who is a staple in the southern hip hop, and the crunk movement, has reportedly released a new single "Queen of the South" taking aim at the latter of the bunch and proclaiming her reign.

[edit] Forever Gangsta

In Mid 2006, Gangsta Boo announced her new album "Forever Gangsta" would be released following her "Still Gangsta" mixtape. It has been pushed back three times, but Boo boasts its for a good cause. "I want to perfect my craft," she says. Bragging about production from the up and coming Drum Squad Productions, and co executively producing it herself. She has given us a taste of the album, with the release of studio goodies. Such as "Gettin' Money", "Stacks on Deck" and the most popular "Queen of the South". Where she takes subliminal jabs at other female rappers while reaching for the crown. She has also graced other tracks with guest spots. Recently "Wanting You" off Pastor Troy's new album Tool Muziq, "Famous" of Yola's new mixtape. As well as many more to come. Boo is aiming for a fall release for the new album.

[edit] Death of Pimp C

In midst of the sudden death of Pimp C, Gangsta Boo commented on the situation. "He was a good friend of mine," Boo remembers. "He gave me tips on how to become the best rapper I could be." After paying her respects, she also talked about how we would see him on her new project. "After he was released from prison, he gave me a hook for my new album which you will hear very soon!" Gangsta Boo is apart of what you would call the "old south". Clearly her style and music are both influenced by UGK, which is why she calls herself the UGQ. "We were yelling FREE PIMP C" she adds, "But now we're yelling R.I.P. PIMP C."

[edit] We The Hardest

On her Myspace Page, Boo dropped a bombshell announcing the long anticipated duo album between her and co-Queen of Memphis La Chat. "We the Hardest is the title." After the two got out of the Hypnotize Minds contracts, a joint album was probably on every southern rap fan's Christmas list. "I'm still putting out a solo project" she promises, "La Chat is too." Shortly before stating "I'm in Miami right now, its like my third home. Atlanta is my second, and Memphis will always by my first." As far as details on the album, "We will keep you posted." VDA
